BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference named Alabama State University's Amon Scarbrough the SWAC Football Newcomer of the Week on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023.
Scarborough recorded six tackles with one interception, a fumble recovery, and two passes defended. His interception ended a drive in ASU territory in the third quarter and his fumble recovery stopped (an Alabama A&M) Bulldogs' drive in the fourth quarter.
Let's look back on the young man's career to this point as we watch him carve out his future. The following is from his Alabama State bio.
JACKSONVILLE STATE (2021-2022): Played in 17 games during his two seasons at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala...registered 28 tackles, one tackle for loss and a pass deflection over his two seasons with Gamecocks...saw action in nine games, recording 15 stops in 2022...appeared in eight games for the Gamecocks in the defensive secondary (in 2021)…made four starts in the final six games…had nine unassisted tackles and made 15 total tackles for the year…
HIGH SCHOOL: Played for head coaches Patrick Nix and then Sam Shade at Pinson Valley High School in Pinson, Ala…led the Indians to the 2020 AHSAA Class 6A State Championship, their third state title in the past four seasons…PVHS went 12-2 in his senior season and outscored its opponents by almost 200 combined points…was named to the All-South Metro Team as a senior…recorded six tackles in the Indians’ 23-13 win over Spanish Fort in the 2020 State Championship Game, tied for second on the team
