Scans from the 1934 Samford/Howard Yearbook

Being the 1934 yearbook, it references the previous year's football team. That club won the institution's first championship, doing so as a member of the Dixie Conference at the time.

Fun to see the added emphasis given to the Birmingham Southern game. Unfortunately, it isn't of the highest quality, but I dug up the Post-Herald's stats sheet from that game as well.

Le Feu de Birmingham

How's your French?

In cleaning out a closet recently, I came across a WLAF program from 1992. I had attended a game in Montreal that year in which the Machine hosted the Ohio Glory.

The program provided a one-page season preview for each team. The text below, summarized, unimaginatively states that football in the state of Alabama is more like a religion, references returning players and renovations to Legion Field.

There was also a three-page feature on linebacker John Brantley mostly recapping his career up to that point. I haven't gotten around to scanning that yet, that's for another day.
